Overview
Orwell Design Associates supported the development of Different Dog's new purpose-built manufacturing facility in Telford, providing the engineering design for a comprehensive building services package. The new factory was developed to support the company's continued growth and increase production capacity while maintaining the highest standards of food manufacturing.
The Challenge
As a rapidly expanding pet food manufacturer, Different Dog required a modern production facility with fully integrated mechanical, refrigeration and utility services. The project demanded careful coordination across multiple disciplines to ensure every system worked seamlessly together, from refrigeration and ventilation through to steam, compressed air and building management controls.
Our Approach
Working alongside the wider project team, ODA provided the design for a complete engineering services package, delivering coordinated solutions across refrigeration, ventilation, heating, cooling and utility services. The project also included structural design, steelwork installation, Building Management System (BMS) integration and the coordination of plant installation, access and lift-and-shift operations.
A large custom stainless-steel hood was fabricated to collect ejected steam when the vats opened to control moisture and heat in the room which was extracted by the fan (see photo). An AHU fed the room, and others, with tempered, filtered air.
Our multidisciplinary approach ensured the new facility was designed to support efficient production, future growth and reliable long-term operation.
